IP stands for Ingress Protection, and the IP rating is the level of protection of electrical equipment housings against intrusion by foreign objects, and is derived from the International Electrotechnical Commission standard IEC 60529.

In this standard, for the protection of the enclosure of electrical equipment against foreign objects, the IP rating is formatted as IPXX, where XX is two Arabic numerals, the first marking number indicates the level of contact protection and foreign object protection, and the second marking number indicates the level of waterproof protection, and the specific level of protection can be referred to the following table.
