ErP certification is the energy-efficiency certification part of CE marking It became mandatory in 2013.
The Erp Directive is a CE marking requirement. If the products put into the European market belong to the CE scope, they should carry the CE marking. In addition, some authoritative foreign certification bodies are able to provide ErP mark for marketing purposes.
ErP (Energy-Related Products Energy Efficiency Directive) is one of the four major directives for CE certification in Europe, and the other three directives are: LVD (Safety Directive), EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive), ROHS (Toxic and Hazardous Substances Directive).CE is a mandatory directive for importing products into EU countries, and ErP is mandatory from September 1, 2013 onwards. ERP=Energy related Products.
ERP=Energy related Products, i.e., energy related products, in its production, distribution, use of all aspects of the life cycle are closely related to a number of important environmental impact factors, such as the consumption of other raw materials and natural resources (e.g., water), the generation of waste, the discharge of hazardous substances into the environment leading to environmental pollution, and due to the energy consumption caused by the associated Climate change due to energy consumption.
The purpose of the ERP Directive is to establish a coherent and comprehensive legal framework to regulate the environmental design requirements for energy-using products in order to achieve the following objectives:
1. ensure the free movement of energy-using products within the EU;
Improve the overall environmental performance of these products and protect the environment accordingly;
3. ensure the security of energy supply and improve the competitiveness of the EU economy;
4. safeguarding the interests of industry and consumers.
EU regulations: all electrical and electronic products sold in Europe must meet the ERP test or ERP certification requirements (European energy consumption related to product energy saving requirements)
ErP mainly considers the lifespan, light color and electrical parameters of lighting products. The main tests are as follows:
1. Distributed photometer test
Measure the light distribution curve to confirm whether it is a directional or non-directional lamp by cumulative luminous flux.
2. switch test

The relationship between ErP certification and CE marking
ERP directive belongs to CE marking requirements, if the products put into the European market belong to CE scope, they should carry CE marking. In addition, some authoritative foreign certification bodies are able to provide the ERP mark for marketing use.
Does obtaining ENERGY STAR symbolize compliance with ErP requirements?
No. ENERGY STAR is a U.S. certification mark and therefore cannot be used as proof of compliance with EU directives. The only mark that can be used as proof of compliance is the European ecolabel.
How can I do ErP certification effectively?
The conformity assessment of the product is carried out in accordance with the internal design control procedures in Appendix IV of the ERP 2005/32/EC Decree. The simplest and most effective method of conformity assessment is to refer to Annex IV of the EuP Decree, namely:
1. provide the LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) environmental footprint report of the product;
2. providing the test reports required in the eco-design implementation rules;
3. provide the requested information;
But the most effective method is the first one - internal control
ErP Certified Factory Inspection
No factory inspection required
ErP certification cycle
Routinely 2-3 weeks, can be expedited, plus urgent need to pay another fee.
