Introduction to Certification
In order to improve the energy efficiency of electrical equipment and products in various industries (residential, commercial and industrial), and to promote significant economic and environmental benefits, Australia and New Zealand issued the Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards Bill 2012 (GEMS), which came into effect on October 1, 2012, and is now in force. The new GEMS legislation not only covers The new GEMS legislation not only covers the previous major policies: Mandatory Energy Performance Standards (MEPS), Energy Efficiency Labeling (ERLS) and Equipment Energy Efficiency Program (E3), but also expands energy efficiency to include reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and improvement of energy efficiency, guiding businesses and consumers to make better choices from the perspective of lower cost of operation throughout the entire life cycle of the product. The E3 program is designed to guide enterprises and consumers to make better choices in terms of lower costs throughout the product lifecycle.
From October 1, 2012, Australia and New Zealand will be energy efficiency certification GEMS certification, used to replace the previous Australian energy efficiency MEPS certification, GEMS certification is mandatory, belonging to the control of the product must have GEMS certification in order to sell in the market, and the applicant must be a locally registered company in Australia.

Scope of certified products
The products currently regulated by GEMS certification are:
Compact fluorescent lamps, extra-low voltage converters, double-ended fluorescent lamps, ballasts for fluorescent lamps,, washing machines, clothes dryers, dishwashers, external power supplies, televisions, digital set*boxes, electric water heaters, air conditioners and heat pumps, three-phase electric motors, domestic refrigeration appliances, refrigeration towers/precision air conditioners, commercial refrigerators, display cabinets, and distribution transformers.
Certification Process
*The second step is to submit the test report and other documents for certification. The test is based on the same standard as the original MEPS certification, generally speaking, as long as the test report is provided by ISO 17025 accredited laboratories, it can be recognized;

The new GEMS regulations mainly in the registration of new requirements, the applicant can not choose a single state for registration, but unified to the Australian Regulator for registration, and according to the product category, the registration period of 5 years.

2. Product Label containing the appropriate certification mark.
3. Product Photo, which is usually required in countries where factory inspection is required, but CIG 023 Factory Inspection Report is usually acceptable.
