What is AS/NZS ISO 8124?
AS/NZS ISO 8124 is the Australian Toy Safety Standard, which is mainly based on the international toy standard ISO 8124, and is regularly updated and revised to follow the international toy standard. AS/NZS ISO 8124 is generally the same as other international toy safety standards, and contains requirements for physical, flammability, and heavy metal content.
AS/NZS ISO 8124 standard testing contains:
AS/NZS ISO 8124-1: 2019 Safety Requirements Relating to Mechanical and Physical Properties
Australian / New Zealand Standard Safety of Toys Part 1.
Safety Aspects Related to Mechanical and Physical Properties Physical and Mechanical Testing (ISO 8124-1 MOD)
(a) Without Sound module Non-sound producing toys
(b) With Sound module Sound-actuated toys
(c) Mouth-actuated Toys
(d) 7000 Cycles Switch Test for Chest Toy cabinets
(e) Ride-on Toys

(a)Finished Product
(b)Pile fabric or material Pile fabric or material
AS/NZS ISO 8124-3:2021 Heavy Metal Content Tests
Australian / New Zealand Standard Safety of Toys Part 3:Migration of Certain Elements Limitations on Dissolution of Elements (ISO 8124-3 MOD)

Limit: 90 25 60 1000 75 60 60 500 Unit: (PPm)
The requirements for toys in Australia & New Zealand are mainly reflected in the AS/NZS ISO 8124 series of standards. For electric toys, the safety requirements of AS/NZS 62115 should also be met. In addition, Australia has issued a series of mandatory standards and prohibition notices under the Australian Consumer Protection Act and the Trade Practices Act, which also cover the safety requirements of toys.
